Hello, everyone,

I wanted to provide you with a brief update about the Cameron Creek Fire that is so profoundly impacting our entire community right now.  This comes from the Director of our Mountain Campus.

  • The last 48 hours saw significant growth and the northern part of the fire has reached the Pingree Park Road near Fish Creek (a few miles down the road from the Mountain Campus);
  • Today will be another very dynamic, critical red flag day with a long, windy burn period. High winds and lots of smoke mean limited aviation assistance available, mostly ground crews; operationally they are taking a defensive posture, focused on structure protection;
  • The potential good news is that precipitation is expected to begin about 9:00 p.m. tonight, with 6-12 inches of snow across the fire area expected from 6:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. tomorrow. This will significantly help in controlling the blaze.

I ask all of you to please send thoughts to the incredibly courageous, dedicated people who are working to control the fire and protect our community at tremendous risk to themselves.

Thank you.

Joyce
